SVF crosses 2,000 tonnes of plastic recycled, announces expansion to three new cities
Hyderabad-based non-profit hits major milestone 29 months after launch, plans to quadruple processing capacity by 2028.
HYDERABAD, 22 April 2026 — SVF (Sustainable Vikas Foundation), a Hyderabad-based non-profit working in plastic waste recovery and circular economy, today announced it has crossed 2,000 tonnes of plastic recycled since operations began in late 2023.
The milestone was reached on 15 April 2026, 29 months after the organisation’s first community collection point was set up. SVF’s Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in Nacharam now processes over 120 tonnes per month across six polymer streams.
“Crossing 2,000 tonnes is a moment to pause and reflect, but the real story is what we learned getting here,” said Ananya Rao, Impact Director at SVF. “The biggest lesson: collection without community education is just moving trash. Our contamination rates only started falling when we invested in door-to-door segregation training.”
SVF also announced plans to expand its model to three additional cities in Telangana by 2028, with a target of 2,000 tonnes per quarter across the network. The expansion will include a second MRF and a city-wide collection franchise model.
Key milestones achieved:
