SVF and GHMC sign MoU for city-wide waste collection franchise model
Public-private partnership aims to bring formal waste collection to 150,000 households across Hyderabad.
HYDERABAD, 20 March 2025 — The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and SVF today signed a Memorandum of Understanding to pilot a city-wide waste collection franchise model covering 150,000 households.
Under the agreement, SVF will establish collection routes, deploy GPS-tracked vehicles, and integrate informal recyclers as franchise partners. The model, the first of its kind in Telangana, aims to achieve 60% waste diversion in pilot zones within 18 months.
GHMC Commissioner said, “This partnership represents a new approach — treating waste management as a service that can create livelihoods while protecting the environment.”
The pilot will cover five zones, with plans to scale city-wide based on results.
